The world´s biggest truck maker said it was banking big on India´s mining sector to rev-up truck sales.
Wilfried Aulbur, managing director and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz, India told reporters at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010 that there were already signs of revival from the economic slump.
On Wednesday the company unveiled a multi-axle luxury bus, priced at 8-point-5 million rupees, or approximately $184,364 dollars in the Indian capital.
Mercedes-Benz will make the chassis of the three-axle vehicle and its Indian partner Sutlej Motors will assemble the body of the six cylinder bus.
Mercedes-Benz India Ltd, fully owned by Daimler, has been making cars and trucks in India since 19-94, but initially as a joint venture with the country´s largest vehicle maker Tata Motors.
After the joint venture ended in 19-97, the German firm had been making its C, E and S class cars at a facility it leased from Tata Motors until the end of 2008.
It launched a new facility in Pune, in western Maharashtra state, in February last year.
Keen to boost sales, global automakers are unveiling a slew of cars at India´s Auto Expo, which runs until January 11th.
