During the tenth annual Hertzilya Conference, he told a large crowd,"A Jewish and Zionist democratic state will only be ensured once we achieve peace and arrangements with our neighbours."
Barak said that unless a two-state solution is reached with the Palestinians, Israel would either become a bi-national state or an apartheid state.
He said that Israel has a clear silent majority in favour of peace that does not want "apartheid" rule over the Palestinians.
Barack also said Israel must set borders for the land of Israel that would comprise a massive and solid Jewish majority for generations, with a Palestinian state as its neighbour.
