China´s Communist Party international affairs chief Wang Jiarui left Beijing for Pyongyang in what appears to be a move to press Pyongyang to return to nuclear disarmament talks.
KRT showed a still photo of Wang at an airport in Pyongyang with North Korean officials.
KRT also said Wang had a meeting with Kim Yong-il, the head of the International Department.
The six parties North Korean nuclear talks are the United States, Russia, China, Japan and the two Koreas.
China is seen as having most influence on the reclusive state.
The North´s leader Kim Jong-il told Chinese Premier in October that he could return to the nuclear talks if conditions were right.
Wang met the supreme leader Kim last year and received a de-nuclearization pledge.
A top U.N. envoy is also due to visit the reclusive country in the coming days.
