YOK founder dies at 94 in Ankara
Professor İhsan Doğramacı, the founding president of Turkey´s Higher Board of Education, and the founder of Bilkent University, died in Ankara today. He was 94.

Doctors say Doğramacı died of multiple organ failure.

He had been being treated in Hacettepe University Hospital´s intensive care unit since November.

He was born in Arbil, Iraq, in 1915.

Dogramaci was an Iraqi Turkmen pediatric doctor, an academic and an international leader of development.

He was the founder of Bilkent University, a leading private university in Ankara.

He established Hacettepe University in 1967, which is now one of the best state universities in Turkey in the field of medicine.

Doğramacı was the founding fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in London.

He had been a member of the UNICEF executive board.

He also served as president of Turkish National Committee for UNICEF from 1958 to 2003.

Doğramacı was married with three children.

He spoke Turkish, English, French, German, Arabic and Farsi.

He authored more than 100 scientific articles at  three books.
