The country´s top political and military leaders met,  as the arrests of military officers continue.

It´s all part an investigation into an alleged coup plot against the Erdogan government.

Turkısh President Abdullah Gul began a meeting with Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and armed forces chief General Ilker Basbug this morning in Ankara.

Developments  ın the so-called “Sledgehammer” coup plot investigation and some other topics were taken up at the summit.

Media reports say, as part of the, the Turkish army had plotted to provoke Greek fighter jets into shooting down a Turkish military jet.

Reports claim the Turkish Army planned to plant bombs in mosques and museums in Istanbul to stir chaos.

Turkish military leaders deny there was ever such a plan.

Last month, Taraf newspaper said it had obtained 5,000 pages of documents and tapes on the Sledgehammer plan.

The newspaper says the alleged 2003 plan aimed at showing that the ruling AK Party government was unable to protect the public, and to justify an Army takeover.

The Turkish military has said documents quoted by the paper were part of a military training seminar but were "never meant to be carried out and were not part of a conspiracy".

The arrests of military personnel in the Sledgehammer investigation is one of the largest roundups ever against the armed forces.

It followed reports of several alleged plots against the AK Party government in the past year.
