Smith will hold talks with Indian leaders with the goal of strengtheningbilateral ties between the two countries.

He plans to take up the issue of  attacks on Indians in Australia... and the action taken by Australia to ensure a safety of Indian students.

Australia has witnessed a series of incidents involving locals, attacking Indians over the past 18 months.

New Delhi says the attacks were racial in nature.

But Australia says the attacks were criminal, rather than racially motivated.

Nearly 4-thousand Indian students have cancelled plans to study in Australia after a series of attacks.

The foreign student market is Australia´s third-largest foreign exchange earner, and it´s worth about 12-Billion dollars to the country.

Smith also will review the security measures taken for the upcoming Commonwealth Games while in India.
