Sources from the Turkish Presidency say Gul and Obama exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues.
The official said the fact that the Gul-Obama conversation took place, prior to the U-S house vote on the 19-15 Armenian resolution is noteworthy.
The delegation of Turkish legislators, who are lobbying against the resolution, say it will be a close call.
U.S. State Department spokesman, Philip Crowley, urged the two countries to look forward to the future rather than dwelling in the past.
Meantime, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says Turkey and Armenia should review their own history together ,as part of their efforts to normalise relations.
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan drew attention to the promising process of normalisation of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
Erdogan warned adopting the Armenia resolution, or a statement by President Obama, that will please the Armenian lobby, would cast a serious blow to the normalisation process.
The head of the Turkish Parliament´s Foreign Relations Committee, Murat Mercan says neither Turkey, the U-S nor Armenia will benefit from adoption of the resolution.
He says it will only satisfy the ego of the Armenian lobby.
