Turkish President Abdullah Gül said that endorsement of a non-binding resolution on the Armenian allegations at a US congressional panel will challenge Turkey’s peace efforts in the region.

Before attending an award giving ceremony at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, President Gül replied questions on the controversial Armenian bill vote by the US Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee.

Gül said that passing of the symbolic resolution demonstrates a lack of vision among lawmakers who cast ballots against their ally.

Noting that defiant lawmakers have poor knowledge about Turkey, the President said Turkey will never accept anything by threats or coercion if she does not believe it.

“The approval is nothing else other than non-appreciation of Turkey’s efforts for regional peace, solidarity and settlement of disputes in a sphere of cooperation in the Caucasus, actually it is a blow,” said Gül.

Referring to anti-PKK operations in Europe, President Gül said all nations have liabilities for counterterrorism efforts and added that terrorist elements have always abused the sentiments on democracy and freedom in Europe.

Gül also said he appreciates the EU stance against the PKK which was designated as a terrorist organization by the 27-nation bloc and NATO.
