Putin meets Indian president Patil
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met Indian President  Pratibha Patil in New Delhi, as he started a visit aimed at boosting strategic and defense ties with the former Cold War allies.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Indian President

Russia and India are expected to sign over a dozen deals worth 10-billion dollars during Putin´s vısıt.

The two countrıes are also expected to  finalize policies on the way forward in Afghanistan.

Energy-hungry India is one of the world´s top arms importers and plans to spend tens of billions of dollars on defense over the next few years.

It is a move that causes unease in long-time foe Pakistan and regional rival China.

A civilian nuclear deal also tops Putin´s agenda.

A meeting between Putin and Indian Premier Manmohan Singh in Moscow in December,  failed to generate big deals.
